Research projects
-
INDILACT - Individually adapted lactations lengths
The aim of the project is to develop tools which can be used for individually adapted lactation lengths based on the biological conditions of the cow. -
Alternative to carbon dioxide – nitrogen foam anesthesia
The purpose of the study is to evaluate the behavioral and physiological reactions of pigs to the stunning method with nitrogen foam and to study the stunning process. -
Fish farming in the North – a food production with environmental potential
The project aims to investigate if and how rainbow trout and Arctic charr can be farmed sustainably in hydropower dams in northern Sweden from a biological, ecological, social and economical perspective. -
Reed as feed to horses and ruminants
This project investigates whether reed silage can be used as roughage for horses. Reed is harvested in different plant maturations and analyzed with regard to energy value and nutrient content.

Beijer Laboratory for Animal Science (BLAS)
The research at the Beijer Laboratory for Animal Science (BLAS) aims to make better use of data automatically collected at high-tech farms so that management and breeding of future generations of dairy cows may be as efficient as possible. -
Ruminant management
Our research on management of ruminants primarily covers dairy cows. Research projects often include animal welfare, animal health, the efficiency of production systems and possibilities to adjust grazing, housing and technology to the biology of the animals. -
Idisslarnutrition
We research and teach about ruminant feeding and nutrition both nationally and globally. Our research aims to develop knowledge on how different feeding strategies, feed ingredients, and feed additives affect the animals, production, and environmental impact.
